The S-Bahn spine
The suburban rail line cuts north to south through Mahlow and Blankenfelde. It is the clearest straight stroke on the map, with the denser street clusters gathered around each station.

El mapa
Blankenfelde-Mahlow sits directly on Berlin's southern edge, and from above the join shows. The dense city blocks of the capital stop, and a looser pattern begins: single-family streets, garden plots and village cores spaced out across flat Brandenburg land. The municipality was formed in 2003 by merging several older villages, including Blankenfelde, Mahlow and Dahlewitz. On the map they still read as separate clusters rather than one town.
The most legible line is the S-Bahn route running south from Berlin through Mahlow and Blankenfelde. Residential streets gather around the stations and then spread out in short loops and cul-de-sacs. Between the settlements the lines open up. Farm tracks, patches of woodland and small bodies of water break the drawing into distinct pieces, so the finished map has plenty of white space between its denser areas.
A Blankenfelde-Mahlow map poster shows a place defined by its edges. The northern boundary was once part of the border between West Berlin and East Germany. Today it is simply where one street pattern gives way to another. To the east, the orbiting roads around the capital's airport region begin to appear. The result is a quiet, balanced composition of village centres, rail and open ground.
The suburban rail line cuts north to south through Mahlow and Blankenfelde. It is the clearest straight stroke on the map, with the denser street clusters gathered around each station.
Each former village keeps its own compact centre. Seen from above they look like small knots of streets, separated by fields and woodland rather than merged into continuous sprawl.
Along the northern boundary the tight blocks of the capital meet the looser suburban grid. The line once formed part of the inner German border and still divides two distinct textures on paper.

Por qué Blankenfelde-Mahlow
This map suits people who live along the S-Bahn south of Berlin, grew up in one of the old villages or commuted from here for years. It captures something street signs rarely show: how the neighbourhoods relate to one another and to the city just across the line.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example your village name or a moving-in date. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download HD files for $9 or order a printed poster, framed or unframed.
