Chunghwa is a county within the administrative area of Pyongyang, lying to the southeast of the capital's urban core. It is mainly rural, and the map reflects that. There is a modest town centre surrounded by open, low country, with farmland stretching across the plain and low hills rising here and there.
The town's streets are few and direct, with a small number of main roads connecting it to the capital and to neighbouring counties. Beyond the built-up area, the land is divided into fields, many of them irrigated for rice, and crossed by channels and small streams. The contrast between a small grid and wide open land is clear.
