El mapa
Dolton is a village in Cook County, Illinois, just past Chicago's southern city limits. It lies in the Calumet region, a flat landscape once dominated by wetlands, rail yards and heavy industry, and its streets follow the rectangular grid that covers much of the Chicago area. The Little Calumet River interrupts that grid as it winds along the village, giving the map its most organic line.
Much of Dolton is residential, with long blocks of single-family homes on straight streets, broken up by parks, schools and commercial corridors. Railway lines cross the area on their own alignments, a legacy of the Calumet's industrial past. On a Dolton map poster, the mix of rigid grid, curving river and angled tracks creates more tension than a typical suburb.
The village's early growth was tied to the river, and later to the railroads and industry of the region. Today it is part of a continuous suburban fabric, with Riverdale, South Holland and Calumet City nearby. Wider frames show how Dolton fits into this dense network of South Side neighbourhoods and suburbs.
The river curves through the flat grid, forming the one natural, flowing line in an otherwise orderly pattern of streets and blocks.
Straight residential streets continue the rectangular layout of the wider metropolitan area, giving the map a strong, even rhythm across the page.
Railway lines cross the village on their own alignments. They recall the Calumet region's industrial history and make a bold graphic element on the poster.

Por qué Dolton
Dolton is home to many families with long roots on Chicago's South Side, and a map of the village captures blocks that mean something specific: a first house, a school, a grandparent's street. It makes a thoughtful housewarming or family gift.
