Eilenburg Map Poster & Print

Eilenburg lies on the Mulde river north-east of Leipzig. On the map, water is its most striking feature. The main river and a millstream divide the town into separate parts, so the streets are interrupted by channels and bridges, and the historic centre sits on land partly surrounded by water.

Above the river is the Burgberg, the castle hill where the town's earliest fortifications stood. The old market square area was badly damaged in the final weeks of the Second World War and later rebuilt, so the map combines older street lines with post-war blocks. Meadows and floodplain along the Mulde leave wide open spaces between the districts.

Eilenburg is known as the town where the pastor Martin Rinckart wrote the hymn Nun danket alle Gott during the Thirty Years' War. An Eilenburg map poster shows a river town whose shape has always depended on the Mulde.

The Mulde

The river runs through the town with a broad floodplain. It separates districts and gives the poster a strong, flowing line.

02

Millstream island

A millstream branches off the river and wraps around part of the town. The resulting island and bridges make an unusual pattern on the map.

03

Castle hill

The Burgberg rises above the water at the site of the medieval castle. Its winding paths mark the oldest part of the settlement.
