Temple of Khnum
A Roman-era temple hall set well below today's street level. On the map it is a clean rectangle cut into the dense fabric of the old town.

Esna Map Poster & Print
Esna sits on the west bank of the Nile, about fifty kilometres south of Luxor, where the valley narrows between two bands of desert. On a map the town is a dense, low grid pressed against the water, with most of its streets running parallel to the bank. Beyond the last houses, irrigated fields make a thin green strip before the desert begins, and that contrast reads clearly even in black and white.
The best-known landmark is the Temple of Khnum, built in the Greco-Roman period. It now lies several metres below the modern streets, because the town grew up on top of it over the centuries. Excavated as a rectangular pit in the middle of the old quarter, it shows on the map as a sharp void among tightly packed blocks. Its painted ceilings have been cleaned and restored in recent years.
Near the town, a barrage crosses the Nile, and river cruise boats travelling between Luxor and Aswan pass through its lock. An Esna map poster captures that whole sequence of river, barrage, town and field in a narrow composition, where the Nile does most of the drawing and the streets fill in the rest. The result is spare, clear and very much shaped by the valley.

The Nile Barrage
A straight line of sluices and a lock spanning the river near the town, the one hard geometric stroke across an otherwise flowing Nile.
Fields and Desert Edge
Beyond the built-up area, rectangular farm plots follow irrigation channels until the cultivated strip gives way abruptly to open, unmarked desert.

Por qué Esna
Un mapa con significado
Esna suits someone who has travelled the Nile slowly, or who has family ties to Upper Egypt. The composition is naturally elongated, with the river as a strong spine, so it works well in a hallway or above a narrow desk.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with the date of a visit, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand in particular echoes the desert on either side of the valley.
