Ezhupunna lies in Alappuzha district in Kerala, on the narrow coastal strip between the Arabian Sea and the Vembanad backwaters. On the map it isn't a compact town but a long ribbon of settlement, stretched along the main highway, with houses, lanes and water channels branching off it on both sides.
This part of Kerala is shaped by water. Canals, ponds and backwater inlets appear throughout the landscape, and houses sit among coconut palms and small plots of land. Narrow lanes lead between homes and waterways, so the street pattern is fine-grained and irregular, following the land and water rather than any grid.
