El mapa
Filderstadt sits on the Filder plain south of Stuttgart. The town was created in 1975 by merging five villages: Bernhausen, Bonlanden, Harthausen, Plattenhardt and Sielmingen. From above it does not read as one centre. It reads as a group of separate street clusters, each with its own knot of old lanes, spread over flat, fertile farmland. Newer housing and roads have grown in between but have not fully closed the gaps.
The plateau is known for its loess soils and for Filderkraut, the pointed cabbage grown here for generations. On a map the farmland shows up as broad empty stretches between the built areas, crossed by straight farm tracks. To the north, the long runway of Stuttgart Airport and the motorway corridor form hard lines that set this edge of the town apart from its softer rural southern side.
A Filderstadt map poster shows how a town can be several places at once. The five former villages stay legible as distinct patches of fine street pattern. Wider roads link them, and open field sits in the spaces the roads leave behind. In black and white the result looks like an archipelago of settlements on a plain, each island still keeping the outline it had before the merger.
Bernhausen, Bonlanden, Harthausen, Plattenhardt and Sielmingen each keep a compact old centre, so the map shows several dense clusters rather than one downtown.
Wide areas of field on the fertile plateau fill the gaps between districts. They show up as quiet open space crossed by the straight lines of agricultural tracks.
The runway and motorway along the northern side cut clean geometric strokes into the composition and contrast with the irregular lanes of the villages.

Por qué Filderstadt
People who grew up in one of the five districts often want to see their own village in the wider picture. The map shows the old separate cores and the town they became together, which makes it a fitting piece for a family home on the Filder.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a district name or a moving-in date. There are five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Get HD files for $9 or order a printed poster.
