Fondi lies on a wide plain in the south of Lazio, between the mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The ancient Via Appia passes through the town, and its route becomes the main street of the old centre. The historic core still follows a rectangular Roman plan. On the map it shows as a small, tidy grid set within later, looser growth.
The Caetani castle stands at the edge of the old town, a reminder of the town's medieval importance. Around Fondi, the plain is covered with farmland, particularly citrus groves and vegetable fields. The town is also known for its large wholesale fruit and vegetable market.
