El mapa
Gdańsk sits on the Bay of Gdańsk near the mouth of the Vistula, Poland's longest river. From above, water shapes the whole city. The Motława curls through the historic centre, the channels of the Dead Vistula run north to the sea, and docks and shipyards cut deep rectangles into the land. Beyond them, the city runs along the coast toward Sopot and Gdynia, which together with Gdańsk form the Tricity.
The Main Town is a compact grid of narrow streets leading down to the river. Its central axis, the Royal Route, runs along Long Street and Long Market to the waterfront. Granary Island sits between arms of the Motława, and the medieval harbour crane stands on the quay opposite. North of the centre, the shipyard where the Solidarity movement began in 1980 fills the riverbank with large industrial shapes.
A Gdańsk map poster shows the old town and the port on the same sheet. At the entrance to the harbour channel lies Westerplatte, where the first shots of the Second World War were fired on 1 September 1939. Farther west, the land rises into wooded moraine hills around Oliwa, where the street network softens into curves.
Narrow, parallel streets lead down to the Motława. Long Street and Long Market form the Royal Route, the straight spine through the historic centre.
The river splits around Granary Island and passes the old harbour crane, creating the most detailed stretch of water on the map.
Docks and slipways fill the northern riverbanks, and the channel leads out past the Westerplatte peninsula to the open Bay of Gdańsk.

Por qué Gdańsk
Gdańsk combines a medieval merchant city, a modern port and a coastline in a single frame. It makes a map that rewards a closer look and fits a living room or office.
Name the poster after your street or add the date of a visit or a move, and keep or edit the coordinates line. The five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, each render the water differently.
