Guye is a district of Tangshan in Hebei Province, on the northern edge of the North China Plain, not far from the Bohai Sea coast. It developed as a mining area, part of the long coal history of the Tangshan region. From above, residential blocks, broad roads and industrial sites fill a flat landscape crossed by railways.
A Guye map poster shows a layout typical of a Chinese industrial town: long straight avenues, large rectangular residential compounds and the bigger, simpler shapes of mines, works and yards. Rail lines cut through the district in long curves, linking it to the rest of Tangshan and to the wider region.
Beyond the built-up area, farmland and villages take over, and low hills rise to the north toward the Yanshan mountains.
