El mapa
Halden lies on the Iddefjord in southeastern Norway, directly across the water from Sweden. The map is shaped by three elements: the long, narrow fjord that forms the national border, the Tista river running through the centre, and the steep hill crowned by Fredriksten fortress, whose angular outline of bastions rises just above the streets of the old town.
Fredriksten was built in the seventeenth century to defend the border, and in 1718 King Charles XII of Sweden was killed during the siege of the fortress. Below it, the town centre was rebuilt after fires with a regular grid of straight streets, still clearly visible today. Around the river mouth, quays and former industrial sites line the water.
The town grew on timber, sawmills and later manufacturing, drawing on the power of the Tista and the transport offered by the fjord. Forests and lakes surround it on every side, and the Halden canal system runs inland to the north. A Halden map poster brings fortress, fjord, grid and river together in one clear composition.
The fortress occupies the high ground above town, its bastions and walls forming a sharply angled outline that stands out immediately against the curves of the surrounding hills.
The centre was laid out in straight streets and rectangular blocks after fires in the nineteenth century, a regular pattern bordered by the Tista and the harbour.
The Iddefjord cuts a long, narrow channel along the edge of town and marks the boundary between Norway and Sweden, dividing the map with a single line of water.

Por qué Halden
Halden's mix of fortress, fjord and border history makes it a memorable place to have lived or visited, and the map has a rare graphic strength. Personalise it with your own title, the year you arrived or left, and the coordinates of a home or of the fortress itself.
Noir makes the fortress walls and fjord especially dramatic, and Blueprint suits the canal and quays. Classic black and white, Paper and Sand offer calmer options. Choose the $9 HD files in six sizes or a printed poster on matte paper, framed or unframed.
