Ḥamīdiyeh lies in Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran, on the Karkheh River a short drive west of Ahvaz. The land around it is part of the great alluvial plain at the head of the Persian Gulf, low and almost perfectly flat, crossed by rivers, canals and irrigation channels that support farming in an otherwise hot and dry climate.
The Karkheh is the defining feature of the town's map, winding across the plain beside the settlement. Roads follow the river and connect Ḥamīdiyeh with Ahvaz to the east and Susangerd further west. The area lay close to the front lines during the Iran–Iraq war in the 1980s, and much of the region was rebuilt afterward.
