Streets bunch together on the flattest ground available, and roads leave town along valley floors toward neighbouring towns.
Beyond the centre the map breaks into a fine pattern of fields, paths and scattered houses. In this part of Chongqing, farmland follows the slopes, so the plots are small and irregular rather than square. Water appears as small ponds and channels between them.
