Karljohansvern naval point
The old naval yard sits on its own headland east of the centre. Its quays, docks and basins give the map an angular, man-made edge that stands out against the natural coastline.

El mapa
Horten sits on the west side of the Oslofjord in Vestfold, where the land meets the fjord in short points and sheltered bays. From above, the town is compact. A tight core of streets runs down toward the harbour, and residential areas and farmland spread inland behind it. On a map the fjord takes up a large share of the frame, so the eastern edge is mostly open water and irregular shoreline.
The town grew up around the navy. Karljohansvern, the naval yard on the point east of the centre, was the main base of the Royal Norwegian Navy until the 1960s. Its old buildings now house the Navy Museum, one of the oldest naval museums in the world. On the map the base is a separate block of quays and basins, set apart from the civilian streets by its own shoreline.
A Horten map poster also shows how the town connects across the water. Ferry lines run from the harbour to Moss on the eastern shore, one of the busiest crossings on the Oslofjord. To the north, the land toward Borre is quieter, with larger plots and green space. There, Borre National Park preserves a group of burial mounds from the Viking Age and earlier, close to the water's edge.

Ferries cross the Oslofjord from Horten's harbour to Moss. The route turns a stretch of open water into a direct link between the fjord's two shores.
North of the town, Borre National Park keeps a field of ancient burial mounds near the shore. On the map it reads as a calm green area among the fields and scattered roads.

Por qué Horten
For people who grew up in Horten, served at the naval base or cross the fjord by ferry every week, this map brings together what they know best: the harbour, the point and the water. The coastline gives the town a clear, recognisable shape that works well in black and white.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, for example with a family name, a move-in date or the year someone served. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. You can buy HD digital files for $9 or order a printed poster, with an optional wooden frame.
