Historic lane network
The old town is a fine web of narrow alleys between walled compounds, producing one of the densest textures on the print compared with the broader streets of later development.

El mapa
Huicheng, in She County in southern Anhui, is the historic seat of the old Huizhou prefecture and today lies within the city of Huangshan. The ancient town sits close to the Lian River, part of the Xin'an River system, with low green hills on the surrounding horizon. From above, the old quarter is a dense grain of narrow lanes, clearly different from the wider roads of newer districts.
Huizhou is known for its architecture of whitewashed walls and stepped horse-head gables, and for the merchants who built the region's wealth. The town keeps a celebrated Ming-dynasty stone memorial archway near its centre, and on the map the historic core reads as a tight, irregular fabric around a few principal streets. Bridges cross the river, and the water gives the composition a clear, curving edge.
A Huicheng map poster suits anyone with ties to Huizhou, or those who have walked its lanes on the way to the Huangshan mountains. Reduced to black and white, the plan shows how an old administrative town held its shape between river and hillside, and how modern growth has gradually wrapped around it.
The old town is a fine web of narrow alleys between walled compounds, producing one of the densest textures on the print compared with the broader streets of later development.
The Lian River curves past the town, and its open water forms a bold, pale line that anchors the layout, with bridges linking the two banks.
Wooded hills rise around the valley, so roads bend and narrow at the town's edges and the built area stays compact within its natural setting.
