El mapa
Jaten lies in Karanganyar Regency in Central Java, just east of Surakarta, the city better known as Solo. From above, the boundary between the two is hard to find. Solo's dense street network keeps going outward and slowly opens into a looser mix of neighbourhoods, main roads and farmland. Jaten sits in that zone of change, so its map has layers rather than one clear centre.
The area belongs to the wider Solo region, long one of the centres of Javanese culture, and main roads running east from the city pass through it. Along these routes, larger plots sit among the smaller residential blocks, and the two scales show clearly in black and white. A Jaten map poster captures that mix of city edge and working landscape in a single frame.
Beyond the built-up strips the land is flat and farmed, typical of the basin around Solo. Kampung lanes branch off the main roads in irregular patterns that follow older village layouts rather than a planned grid. Farther east the land rises toward Mount Lawu, the volcano on the border between Central and East Java. At town scale, though, the map stays on Jaten's own streets and fields.

Main roads from Solo toward Karanganyar pass through the area. They form strong, steady lines on the map, and the smaller streets and lanes branch off them.
Between the main roads, narrow lanes wind through residential kampung and around open plots. Their loose, organic texture stands out against the straight main routes.

Por qué Jaten
A map of Jaten suits anyone with roots in the Solo area, whether they grew up there, worked nearby or moved away and want something to remember it by. The mix of straight roads and winding lanes also makes a striking abstract image in its own right.
