El mapa
Kalibo is the capital of Aklan province, on the northern side of the island of Panay in the Philippines. The town sits on low, flat ground near where the Aklan River approaches the sea. On a map, the river curves around the town, and mangroves, fishponds and coastline lie to the north.
Kalibo is best known for the Ati-Atihan festival, held every January in honour of the Santo Niño. It is one of the oldest festivals in the country, with painted faces, drums and street dancing. The town is also home to Kalibo International Airport, a main gateway for travellers heading to Boracay.
A Kalibo map poster shows a compact provincial capital shaped by water. The dense grid of the centre gathers around the plaza and cathedral, roads lead out toward the airport and the coast, and the Aklan River draws a broad curve alongside. It is a simple, clear image of a town whose festival is known across the Philippines.

Streets around the plaza and cathedral form a dense, fairly regular grid. The Ati-Atihan parades wind through here every January.
Fishponds, mangroves and low farmland stretch north toward the coast, giving the edges of the poster an irregular, watery texture.

Por qué Kalibo
Kalibo is a home for many Aklanons, and a first stop on the way to Boracay for many travellers. A map of the town marks either connection and is a warm reminder of Ati-Atihan season.
