El mapa
Kapolei was planned as Oahu's second city, a secondary urban centre on the leeward side of the island that would take some of the load off Honolulu. It sits on the flat Ewa plain. On a map that means broad, deliberately laid-out avenues, newer residential districts with curving streets, and large blocks for civic and commercial use. The whole area stands out against the older plantation-era land around it.
To the south and west the land reaches the sea. Kalaeloa, the former Barbers Point naval air station, and the resort lagoons of Ko Olina lie close by, adding runways and shoreline curves to the wider frame. The H-1 freeway marks the northern side, and the University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu campus sits within the city's growing core.
A Kapolei map poster captures a city that was built to a plan within living memory. Its order and space are clear on paper. For island residents, military families who were stationed nearby, and people who moved to the leeward coast, it is a precise record of a young and growing place.
Wide, straight arterial roads divide the city into large planned districts, a clear framework that sets Kapolei apart from Honolulu's denser, older streets.
The former Barbers Point naval air station nearby leaves long runway lines and open ground, a strong geometric element on the southern side of the map.
The coast to the south and west, including the shaped lagoons at Ko Olina, gives the map a curving ocean edge.

Por qué Kapolei
Kapolei is where many Oahu families bought their first home and where plenty of service members were based. A map of it holds personal meaning for people now living far from the leeward coast.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed, so you can add a street name or the year you arrived. The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand suits the dry Ewa plain.
