Branching road network
Instead of a grid, Karingal's streets fan out from a few central junctions. Each lane follows the lie of the land and the edges of old plots, which gives the map an organic, hand-drawn quality.

El mapa
Karingal lies in the far south of Tamil Nadu, close to the tip of the Indian peninsula, where the land narrows between the Western Ghats and the sea. From above, the town has no strict grid. A handful of main roads meet near its centre, and lanes branch off them irregularly into residential clusters, often lined by the shade of palm plantations and small agricultural plots.
The Karingal map poster captures that loose, organic pattern: streets that bend around water tanks, fields and older property lines rather than following a surveyor's plan. Toward the west the ground falls gently to the coast, and a scatter of neighbouring villages sits along the roads between. The overall effect is a soft, branching network rather than a hard-edged town.
This corner of Tamil Nadu is green and densely settled, with some of the highest rainfall in the state. Farming, coconut cultivation and links to the nearby fishing coast have long shaped daily life. On a monochrome map, that closeness between town and countryside shows up clearly. Built-up areas thin out slowly into cultivated land instead of ending at a sharp boundary.
Instead of a grid, Karingal's streets fan out from a few central junctions. Each lane follows the lie of the land and the edges of old plots, which gives the map an organic, hand-drawn quality.
Irrigation tanks and cultivated fields show up as open shapes between the built-up clusters. They break the street pattern into distinct neighbourhoods and hint at the region's farming base.
To the west the roads run toward the Arabian Sea shoreline. A wider frame brings the coastline into view as a long, calm edge along one side of the composition.
