Scattered district cores
Sindorf, Horrem, Buir and the other districts each form their own compact knot of streets, separated by fields, so the poster reads as a group of small towns.

El mapa
Kerpen does not have one centre on the map. It is a set of separate towns joined under one name, including Sindorf, Horrem, Buir, Blatzheim and Türnich. Each has its own small street core, and open farmland lies between them. From above, the pattern looks like beads on a string, held together by roads and rail lines rather than by a single old town.
The flat Erft basin sets the landscape. Straight field boundaries run up to the edges of each settlement, and the motorways that cross near the town cut long diagonal lines through the grid. To the west, the land shows the scale of lignite mining in the Rhineland, where large areas of the surface have been reshaped over decades.
Kerpen is widely known as the town where Michael Schumacher grew up and first raced karts. It is also the birthplace of Adolph Kolping, the nineteenth-century Catholic priest who founded a social movement for young workers. A Kerpen map poster shows a town made of many parts, with its districts spread across the plain.
Sindorf, Horrem, Buir and the other districts each form their own compact knot of streets, separated by fields, so the poster reads as a group of small towns.
Two major motorways meet near the town. Their long curves and slip roads make one of the strongest geometric shapes on the sheet, in contrast with the smaller village streets.
The flat valley of the Erft gives the area its even ground. Straight roads and field edges run across it with few interruptions from hills.

Por qué Kerpen
People who grew up in one of Kerpen's districts often want to see their own village next to the others, since the whole arrangement is hard to picture from the ground. For motorsport fans, the town has a meaning of its own.
You can change the title and subtitle, for example to a single district or a family name, and add a date to the coordinates line. The five styles are Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
