Kireka lies on the eastern side of Greater Kampala, in the fast-growing part of Wakiso District that stretches along the main road towards Jinja. Like much of the capital region, it is organised around hills and the valleys between them. On a map the suburb appears as a tight mesh of streets spread across a rise and spilling down its sides.
The Kampala–Jinja road is the defining line, a broad artery that carries traffic past the suburb and gives it a clear edge. Smaller roads and footpaths branch off it irregularly, climbing the slope in short turns and dividing the land into small, uneven plots. Lower down, the network loosens where wetter ground and valley floors have been left partly open.
