El mapa
Kizhake Chālakudi is part of the Chalakudy area in Thrissur district, Kerala, on the eastern side of the town, as its name suggests: kizhake means east in Malayalam. The Chalakudy River flows nearby, one of the main rivers of central Kerala, winding west from the Western Ghats toward the coast.
From above, the area shows Kerala's typical settlement pattern: homes spread among coconut palms and plantations rather than in dense blocks, connected by winding lanes. The national highway and the railway line pass through Chalakudy, forming two long straight lines across the greener, more irregular pattern.
Upstream on the Chalakudy River are the Athirappilly waterfalls, one of the best-known falls in Kerala. A Kizhake Chālakudi map poster shows the river, the lanes and the main routes together, a quiet and very Keralan landscape.
The river winds through the area on its way from the Western Ghats to the sea, a soft natural line across the map.
The national highway and railway line cross the Chalakudy area in long straight strokes, contrasting with the winding local lanes around them.
Homes and small lanes spread through green, cultivated land rather than dense blocks, producing the dispersed pattern typical of Kerala towns.
