The Angara River
The wide Angara flows past the town as a heavy band across the map. The river is the reason Kodinsk exists at all, since it drew the hydroelectric project nearby.

El mapa
Kodinsk lies on the Angara River in Krasnoyarsk Krai, deep in the Siberian taiga. It grew up in the late Soviet period as a base for the workers building the Boguchany hydroelectric station. The map shows that origin plainly: this is a settlement built to a plan, not a town that grew slowly over centuries. Its edges are sharp, and the forest presses in on every side.
The residential districts are laid out in large rectangular blocks, with wide streets and plenty of space between buildings, as is typical of towns built to a single plan. Only a few roads lead out of the centre. Beyond them the map is almost empty, broken only by forest tracks, clearings and the broad, slow line of the river.
A Kodinsk map poster works through restraint. The town fills a small, clearly bounded patch of the sheet, and the space around it matters as much as the streets, conveying distance and scale. For people who helped build the dam, grew up here or later moved to a city, it is an honest portrait of a place defined by its remoteness.
The wide Angara flows past the town as a heavy band across the map. The river is the reason Kodinsk exists at all, since it drew the hydroelectric project nearby.
Large rectangular blocks sit in a regular pattern. Their spacing and straight edges are typical of Soviet towns built quickly to house construction workers and their families.
Beyond the last streets the map is almost blank, crossed only by a few roads and tracks. The town looks like a small, precise island in the forest.

Por qué Kodinsk
For anyone with ties to Kodinsk, the map is a quiet record of a place few outsiders will ever see, and of the work that brought people to the Angara. It suits a hallway or study where a spare composition is welcome.
