Radial valley pattern
Valleys spread from the peninsula's central heights like spokes, and roads follow them down to the sea, giving the map a clear, wheel-like structure that is rare among coastal towns.

El mapa
Kunisaki sits on the peninsula of the same name in Oita Prefecture, a near-circular landform that juts into the sea off northeastern Kyushu. On a map the shape is unmistakable: ridges and narrow valleys radiate outward from the high ground at the centre, and each valley ends in a small bay or cove where the roads and settlements gather along the shore.
The peninsula is closely associated with Rokugo Manzan, a centuries-old tradition of mountain Buddhism that blended with local Shinto worship. Temples and stone carvings are scattered through the valleys, and the pattern of settlement still follows the terrain rather than any imposed grid. Oita Airport also lies within the city, its runway a straight, clean line laid against the curving coast.
A Kunisaki map poster captures that contrast between organic and engineered forms. Thin roads trace the valley floors, the coastline breaks into repeated inlets, and the upland interior stays open and quiet on the page. It is a composition shaped almost entirely by geology, which gives it a calm, radial balance that works well in a minimalist black-and-white print.
Valleys spread from the peninsula's central heights like spokes, and roads follow them down to the sea, giving the map a clear, wheel-like structure that is rare among coastal towns.
The shoreline is broken into a sequence of small bays and headlands, each marking the mouth of a valley. In black and white this edge reads as a fine, rhythmic outline.
Oita Airport occupies a strip of reclaimed coast within Kunisaki. Its long straight runway stands out sharply against the irregular natural lines around it.

Por qué Kunisaki
People who have walked the temple trails or grown up in one of the peninsula's valleys often want a record of its unusual shape. The radial layout is recognisable at a glance, even to someone who has only seen it once on a flight into Oita.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a date or a family name, and choose from five styles. Blueprint suits the technical feel of the airport strip, while Paper or Sand soften the peninsula into something closer to an old survey sheet.
