El mapa
Lake Lucerne is one of the most complex lakes in Switzerland, and its German name, Vierwaldstättersee, refers to the four cantons that border it. From above it has no single axis. Instead it spreads into several arms that turn sharply between mountains, forming a rough cross near the city and a long hooked branch to the southeast.
The city of Lucerne sits at the northwestern end, where the Reuss river leaves the lake. The covered Chapel Bridge crosses the river there, one of the best-known sights in the country. Mount Pilatus and the Rigi rise on either side of the lake, framing its central section.
In the southern arm, the Rütli meadow on the western shore is traditionally regarded as the place where the Swiss Confederation was founded. A Lake Lucerne map poster shows the full sequence of turning arms, each lined by a thin road and small towns.
At the northwest tip the lake narrows into the Reuss, crossed by the covered Chapel Bridge, with the city's old streets packed along both banks.
Near the city several arms of the lake meet, forming an irregular cross that gives the map its unmistakable outline.
The long southeastern branch runs between steep cliffs toward Flüelen, with the Rütli meadow on its western shore.

Por qué Lake Lucerne
Lucerne draws people who know central Switzerland well: steamer rides, mountain railways up the Rigi, walks through the old town. The lake's branching arms create a map that looks almost abstract but is instantly recognisable to anyone who has been there.
Choose your own title, add a subtitle with a date or a place along the shore and set the coordinates line. Available in Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, with a free watermarked preview before you commit.
