El mapa
Laplace sits on the east bank of the Mississippi in St. John the Baptist Parish, upriver from New Orleans. Its map follows the logic of the river parishes: long, narrow former plantation tracts run back from the levee, and the town grew along them, with neighbourhoods spreading from River Road toward the wetlands behind.
Several strong lines organise the plan. The river and its levee form a broad curve along the south, Airline Highway and the railway run roughly parallel inland, and Interstate 10 marks the northern side before crossing the swamps toward Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas. Between them, subdivisions of curving streets and cul-de-sacs fill what was once sugarcane land.
The town calls itself the andouille capital of the world, a nod to its smokehouse tradition. The area is also where the 1811 German Coast uprising began, the largest slave revolt in United States history. A Laplace map poster carries that layered past quietly, through the shape of the land rather than labels.
The river bends along the southern edge, with the levee and River Road tracing its curve and older streets running inland at right angles from the bank.
Property lines inherited from French colonial land division run in narrow strips from the river toward the swamp, still visible in how roads and neighbourhoods are aligned.
Past the interstate, the street network ends abruptly at cypress swamp and marsh leading toward Lake Maurepas and Lake Pontchartrain, a stark boundary on the print.

Por qué Laplace
For people from the river parishes, this map captures something hard to put into words: the pull between river and swamp that decides where everyone lives. It suits a kitchen, a den or a family home that has weathered more than one storm.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a family name and the year the house was built, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. A matte printed poster, framed or unframed, can be shipped to your door.
