Liaolan is a town in the countryside of eastern Shandong, within the wider area administered from Qingdao. It sits on the gently rolling plains of the Jiaodong region, and from above the landscape is mostly agricultural. Fields are laid out in long strips, small villages appear at regular intervals and straight roads connect them. The town itself forms a denser knot of streets within this pattern.
