Longhua lies in the western part of Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country of the Sichuan Basin. Here the land rarely stays flat for long. Low, rounded hills alternate with narrow valleys, and settlements grow wherever roads can run level. From above, the town is a cluster of streets tucked between slopes, surrounded by fields and ponds.
