Loni is in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, directly on the northeastern border of Delhi. It is part of the National Capital Region and has grown rapidly as the metropolitan area has pushed outward. From above, the town is a dense mix of older village cores and newer residential colonies that have filled in the surrounding farmland.
Much of this growth has happened without a single overall plan, so the street pattern changes from block to block. Some areas have narrow, winding lanes, others have more regular grids, and main roads cut through toward Delhi and toward Ghaziabad and Baghpat. The low, flat land of the Yamuna floodplain lies to the west.
