Terek Ridge slopes
The town lies across the flank of a low mountain ridge, so its streets run in curves and terraces that follow the hillside instead of forming a regular grid.

El mapa
Malgobek Map Poster & Print
Malgobek sits on the northern slopes of the Terek Ridge in Ingushetia, and the map shows it plainly. Streets follow the contours instead of a straight grid, bending around folds in the hills and thinning out where the ground gets steeper. Below the town the land opens into the flat, cultivated plain of the North Caucasus foothills.
The town grew up in the 1930s around oil fields, and that origin still shows from above. Residential quarters sit in separate clusters rather than one dense centre, linked by long roads that climb and drop between them. Service tracks and small access roads run off into the surrounding hills, the working pattern of an oil town drawn in thin lines.
Malgobek holds the Russian title City of Military Glory, awarded for the fighting around its oil fields in 1942. A Malgobek map poster reduces all of this to its structure: curved residential streets, the ridge they rest on, and the steppe spreading north. In black and white it reads like a relief drawing of a town shaped by its terrain.

Scattered quarters
Instead of one compact core, Malgobek is a set of neighbourhoods spread over the slope and joined by long connecting roads, which gives the map an open, loose composition.
Steppe edge
North of the built-up area the lines stop and open farmland begins, a clear border between the hilly town and the plain below it.

Por qué Malgobek
Un mapa con significado
For people from Ingushetia, a map of Malgobek is a portrait of home drawn in the lines of the hills themselves. It suits a hallway or a study, and it makes a quiet gift for relatives who have moved away and still remember the view down from the ridge.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example to a family name or an important year, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Buy it as a $9 set of HD files or as a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
