Osnabrück Map Poster & Print

Osnabrück sits in a shallow valley between the Wiehengebirge to the north and the Teutoburg Forest to the south. The Hase River runs through the centre from south to north. From above, the old town is an oval of irregular medieval streets, closed in by the Wallring, the ring road that follows the line of the former fortifications.

Outside the ring, the city spreads in a loose star along its main roads, with neighbourhoods separated by parks, cemeteries and wooded hills such as the Piesberg. To the north, a branch of the Mittelland Canal ends at the city harbour, giving the map a straight, deliberate waterline next to the winding river.

In 1648 part of the Peace of Westphalia was negotiated here, and the city still calls itself the city of peace. The novelist Erich Maria Remarque was born in Osnabrück. An Osnabrück map poster shows the ring around the old centre and the green hills beyond it.
