On a map its streets gather close together around the town's temple, with lanes and blocks arranged in the tradition of many Tamil temple towns. The town is best known for the Pralayakaleswarar temple, an old Shiva shrine praised in the Tevaram hymns of the Nayanar saints and counted among the Paadal Petra Sthalams. Its compound forms a clear rectangle at the heart of the map, and the surrounding streets follow its outline.
