Contour-following roads
The main routes climb in long curves rather than straight lines, bending around ridges and gullies. Side streets branch off them at irregular angles, giving the town a branching, tree-like outline.

El mapa
Prigen sits on the eastern flanks of the Arjuno-Welirang volcanic massif in Pasuruan Regency, East Java. From above, the town has no neat centre. It spreads along roads that follow the contours of the slope, with clusters of houses, guesthouses and gardens strung between patches of forest. The lines bend constantly and double back where the ground gets steeper, which gives the map a loose, organic pattern.
The highlands here are cooler than the plain, and for a long time that has drawn visitors from Surabaya and the lowland towns. Prigen is best known as the home of Taman Safari Indonesia II, a large wildlife park laid out on the hillside. On a map its internal roads form a separate network of loops, apart from the village streets around it.
A Prigen map poster works mostly through texture: short streets branching off a few climbing routes, blank areas where forest and plantations take over, and lines that thin out as the land rises. In black and white, the shift from settled slope to open mountainside reads clearly, even without contour shading.
The main routes climb in long curves rather than straight lines, bending around ridges and gullies. Side streets branch off them at irregular angles, giving the town a branching, tree-like outline.
Taman Safari Indonesia II covers a broad stretch of hillside. Its drives form their own network of loops, which stands out against the denser village streets nearby.
Further uphill, buildings and streets give way to open ground. On the poster this shows as a gradual fade from dense linework to empty space, marking where the mountain begins.
