El mapa
Purbalingga is the capital of a regency in the western part of Central Java, lying on the gently falling ground south-east of Mount Slamet, the highest volcano in the province. The land drops toward the south, and rivers coming down from the mountain cut shallow valleys through the area. On a map the town reads as a compact centre with roads reaching outward along the higher ground between those valleys.
At its heart is the arrangement common to many Javanese regency towns: a central square with civic buildings around it and a main road running past. From there the street pattern becomes more organic, with lanes following the terrain and settlements running in strips along the roads into the surrounding rice fields and villages. Purwokerto lies a short distance to the west, and the two towns share the same broad valley landscape.
Purbalingga is widely known for its hair-product workshops, which produce wigs and false eyelashes for export, and the regency is the birthplace of General Soedirman, one of the founding military figures of the Indonesian republic. A Purbalingga map poster sets these associations aside and shows the place in plain line: the square, the roads, the rivers and the way the town sits on the slope.
The central alun-alun forms an open rectangle in the middle of the street pattern, a clear anchor point from which the main roads of the town can be traced.
The Klawing River passes close to the town on its way south, and its winding course adds a soft, irregular line against the more ordered streets.
Roads and settlements follow the ground as it descends from Mount Slamet, so the street network stretches along ridges and gently curving routes rather than a strict grid.

Por qué Purbalingga
A map of Purbalingga suits someone who comes from the town, has family in the regency, or remembers it as a first posting, a school town or a stop on the way to the mountain. The drawing shows the town as a single, readable shape, which is hard to see from the street.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name, a wedding date or the name of a neighbourhood. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. A free 900 px watermarked preview lets you check the framing before you buy the $9 HD files or a printed poster.
