El mapa
Rikaze, better known as Shigatse, is the second-largest city in Tibet. It sits at around 3,800 metres on a broad valley floor where the Nyang River flows toward the Yarlung Tsangpo. On the map the city spreads across flat ground bounded by bare mountains. Older lanes gather near the historic core, and wide, straight modern avenues extend across the plain.
The main landmark is Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama, founded in the fifteenth century on the slopes at the western edge of the city. On a Rikaze map poster its buildings and circuit paths show as a dense cluster against the hillside. The rebuilt Samdrubtse Dzong fortress stands above the old town.
Around the city, irrigated barley fields line the river valley, and roads follow the water toward Lhasa and the west. The contrast between the fertile valley and the dry mountains translates well into black and white, where the empty slopes frame the city and the rivers give it a clear direction.
The monastery complex sits at the foot of a hill. Its tightly packed buildings and the pilgrim path around it form one of the most intricate areas on the poster.
The Nyang and Yarlung Tsangpo rivers run through the wide valley near the city, and their channels and sandbars add flowing lines to the edges of the map.
Newer districts are laid out along wide, straight roads across the plain, a strong geometric contrast to the irregular lanes around the monastery and the old town.

Por qué Rikaze
Travellers crossing Tibet often remember Shigatse for the monastery at dawn and the mountains around the valley. A map holds that setting in a restrained form. It suits a study or a hallway and is quieter than a photograph.
The title can read Rikaze or Shigatse, and you can add a subtitle, a date and a coordinates line of your choice. Choose one of five styles; Paper and Sand suit the high, dry light. HD files cost $9, and printed posters ship from partners in 30+ countries.
