El mapa
Ringsted sits almost in the geographic centre of Zealand, and has served as a crossroads for a very long time. In the Middle Ages it was the site of the Zealand assembly, and St. Bendt's Church in the town centre is the burial place of several Danish kings of the Valdemar era.
On the map, the old town is small and compact, a cluster of streets around the church and square. Newer neighbourhoods and industrial areas spread outward from it. Beyond them, the flat, open farmland of central Zealand stretches in every direction, broken by woodland and small lakes.
Ringsted's position makes it an important transport junction. Main railway lines from Copenhagen divide here toward Funen and toward the south, and the motorways meet nearby. A Ringsted map poster shows these lines converging on a small historic centre in the middle of the island.

Railway lines from Copenhagen split here toward the west and south, drawing long, strong lines through the town and the fields beyond.
Major roads meet near Ringsted, their interchanges forming large curved shapes against the regular pattern of the surrounding farmland.
