Severna Park lies in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, north of Annapolis. It occupies a peninsula between the Severn River and the Magothy River, both flowing into the Chesapeake Bay. On a map the shoreline is its defining feature. Coves, creeks and inlets bite deeply into the land, and many residential streets end at the water.
Running through the community is the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail, a former railway line converted into a long walking and cycling path. On the map it forms a single continuous line through the curving residential streets. Ritchie Highway, the main road corridor, runs parallel to it and carries most of the commercial activity.
