El mapa

Shahhat Map Poster & Print

Shahhat lies on the Jebel Akhdar, the Green Mountain plateau of eastern Libya, next to the ancient city of Cyrene. Greek settlers from Thera founded Cyrene around 631 BC, and it became one of the great cities of the Hellenic world. Its ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The map shows two layers side by side: the modern town's streets and the open archaeological zone. The Sanctuary of Apollo, the Temple of Zeus and the ancient quarters leave a clear gap in the network. To the north the plateau falls away in steep terraces toward the coast and the old port of Apollonia.

A Shahhat map poster shows a landscape where geography and history are closely linked. The plateau edge, the modern streets and the ruined city appear in one frame. For anyone who studies the ancient Mediterranean or has roots in Cyrenaica, it holds a lot of meaning in a very simple form.

01

Ancient Cyrene

The archaeological site next to the town is one of the most important Greek cities in Africa. It appears on the map as a broad open area set apart from modern streets.

02

Plateau edge

North of Shahhat the Jebel Akhdar drops in steep steps toward the sea. Roads wind down the escarpment in tight bends that stand out clearly in monochrome.

03

Road to Apollonia

A route descends from the plateau to the coast, linking the town with the site of Cyrene's ancient harbour at Apollonia.

Por qué Shahhat

Un mapa con significado

Few places combine a working town with a site of this importance. A map of Shahhat speaks to classicists, travellers and Libyan families alike, and to anyone drawn to the long history of the Mediterranean.

Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with the Greek name Kyrene, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand suits this limestone landscape especially well.
