El mapa
Shikoku is the smallest of Japan's four main islands, divided into the prefectures of Kagawa, Tokushima, Ehime and Kochi. A chain of mountains runs through its centre, so most towns and cities occupy the narrow plains along the coast. The northern shore faces the calm, island-filled Seto Inland Sea, while the south opens onto the Pacific through the broad curve of Tosa Bay.
Three bridge routes connect the island to Honshu, and each leaves a distinctive line on the map. The Great Seto Bridge crosses from Kagawa, the Shimanami Kaido hops across a string of islands to Ehime, and in the east the Onaruto Bridge spans the Naruto Strait, known for its tidal whirlpools. On a Shikoku map poster these crossings reach out like threads from the coast.
Shikoku is also known for its pilgrimage of 88 temples, a circuit of more than a thousand kilometres that loops around the whole island. In the southwest the Shimanto River winds toward the Pacific with few dams, one reason it is often called the last clear river in Japan. Matsuyama, Takamatsu, Tokushima and Kochi are the four prefectural capitals.
The Shikoku Mountains fill most of the interior, leaving winding valley roads and thin river lines. On the poster the coastal cities frame a quieter, deeply folded centre.
Three routes span the water to Honshu, including the Shimanami Kaido across a chain of small islands. Their long straight segments are some of the most graphic lines on the map.
Takamatsu, Matsuyama, Tokushima and Kochi each sit on their own stretch of coast, so the street networks cluster at the island's edges rather than in its centre.

Por qué Shikoku
Shikoku suits pilgrims who completed the 88-temple walk, cyclists who rode the Shimanami Kaido and families with roots in one of its four prefectures. A single map holds the whole route, the coastlines and the mountains that make the journey long.
Use the title for the island's name or your own journey, a subtitle for the dates you walked and the coordinates line for a temple or hometown. Five styles, from Classic black & white to Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, and six print sizes are available.
