Shuizhai is the seat of Wuhua County in Meizhou, a prefecture in the hilly north-east of Guangdong known as a heartland of Hakka culture. On the map it appears as a concentrated town set in a valley. The land around it breaks into ridges, terraces and small settlements linked by winding roads.
The river running through the valley organises the town. Older streets sit close to it, while newer districts extend outward across the flatter ground, their blocks larger and more regular. Where the valley narrows, building stops and the hills take over, so the edges of the map are soft and irregular rather than straight.
A Shuizhai map poster shows a place that is rarely drawn at this scale. In black and white the pattern is easy to read: a dense centre, a river threading through it, and roads fanning out toward villages in the hills.
