Palace and Aleksandria

El mapa
Siedlce sits on the flat plain of eastern Mazovia, roughly ninety kilometres east of Warsaw. From above, the town reads as a tight historic core with a regular pattern of streets around the old market square. Newer housing districts spread out around it, and farmland fields press in at the edges. The small Muchawka river winds through the southern and western parts of town, and its curves show up clearly against the straight streets.
The town grew around the estate of the Ogiński family. Aleksandra Ogińska's palace and the landscaped Aleksandria park next to it still anchor the centre, and on a map they appear as a soft green patch set among the straight streets. Nearby stands the eighteenth-century town hall, known locally as Jacek after the Atlas figure on its roof. A Siedlce map poster keeps this whole layout in a single frame.
Rail shaped the modern town as much as the estate did. The line from Warsaw towards Terespol and the Belarusian border runs across Siedlce as a firm diagonal, with sidings and yards collecting around the station. Main roads leave the centre in several directions towards the surrounding villages. From 1975 to 1998 the town was the capital of its own voivodeship, and the larger residential estates from those decades are easy to pick out on the map.
The Ogiński palace grounds and Aleksandria park form the clearest green space in the centre, with curving paths and water that stand out against the straight streets around them.
A small, winding river that crosses the town's southern and western edges, adding a thin, irregular line that softens the otherwise orderly street pattern.
The Warsaw–Terespol line crosses Siedlce as a long straight stroke, with station tracks and yards that divide the town into clearly readable halves.
