El mapa
Siu Lek Yuen is an area of Sha Tin, in Hong Kong's New Territories, on the eastern side of the Shing Mun River channel. It is part of Sha Tin New Town, which was developed from the 1970s onward, much of it on land reclaimed from Tolo Harbour. From above, the flat valley floor is filled with large estate blocks, and the hills rise sharply behind them.
The map shows a modern, planned structure rather than an old street pattern. Wide roads separate large plots of public housing, schools and an industrial area, and elevated roads and footbridges connect them. The Shing Mun River runs as a straight, channelled waterway nearby, and wooded slopes close in the area to the east.
A Siu Lek Yuen map poster captures this very Hong Kong contrast: dense, geometric development on the valley floor, with the steep, blank shapes of the hills pressing in on the edges. It is a strong composition for anyone who grew up in Sha Tin.
The channelled Shing Mun River runs through Sha Tin nearby, a broad straight waterway drawn as a clean band across the map.
Large public housing estates and schools occupy wide plots between main roads, a pattern typical of Hong Kong's new towns and very different from an older city grid.
Steep, wooded hillsides rise immediately behind the built-up area, leaving large empty spaces on the map that frame the dense valley floor.

Por qué Siu Lek Yuen
Many Hong Kong families have lived in Sha Tin's estates for generations, and a map of Siu Lek Yuen marks that specific corner rather than the city as a whole. The mix of density and open hillside gives the print strong contrast.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, and the map is available in Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Choose the $9 digital files or a matte printed poster.
