El mapa
Sumbal is a town in the Kashmir Valley, north of Srinagar, on the banks of the Jhelum as the river winds toward Wular Lake. The valley floor here is flat and wet. Paddy fields, orchards and channels fill the space between settlements, and the mountains rise at the edges of the valley.
On a map, the river does most of the work. The Jhelum loops through the area in broad curves, and the town's streets gather close to its banks, with roads branching outward across the plain toward neighbouring villages. Nearby Manasbal Lake adds a second body of water, a clean shape set against the fine pattern of fields.
A Sumbal map poster turns this landscape of water into a calm graphic composition. The town is compact, but the setting gives it depth: meanders, bridges, lanes along embankments and the gentle grain of cultivated land, all without the clutter of colour.
The river curves through the area in wide loops, and the town's streets and crossings follow its banks, giving the map a strong, flowing central line.
The nearby lake forms a clear, open shape on the map, one of several bodies of water that define this part of the valley.
Paddy fields and orchards spread across the flat valley floor, crossed by small roads and channels that connect the town to surrounding villages.
