El mapa

Suwa Map Poster & Print

Suwa lies in the centre of Nagano Prefecture, on the southeastern shore of Lake Suwa, in a basin surrounded by mountains. On a map, the lake fills one side of the frame. The city fills a strip of flat land between the shoreline and the rising hills, and streets and rail lines run in curves that follow the edge of the water.

The town is home to parts of Suwa Taisha, one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan. It is famous for the Onbashira festival, held every six years, in which huge logs are dragged down mountain slopes. In the postwar decades, the area became a centre of precision industry, including watchmaking. The Kamisuwa district is known for its hot springs.

A Suwa map poster pairs the smooth outline of the lake with a dense lakeshore town and the scattered hill roads beyond. It is a calm, balanced composition for anyone who has walked the shore or visited the shrines.

01

Lake Suwa shoreline

The lake takes up a large part of the map, and its rounded edge shapes the whole city. Promenades and roads follow the curve of the shore.

02

Suwa Taisha shrines

Parts of the ancient shrine complex sit on the edges of the basin, where the plain meets wooded hills. They are marked by quiet precincts among the streets.

03

Basin between mountains

The town fills a narrow flat margin between the lake and the steep surrounding slopes. On the map, dense streets give way sharply to winding mountain roads.

Por qué Suwa

Un mapa con significado

Suwa is a place of seasons: a frozen lake in winter, festival years, summer fireworks over the water. A map of the lakeshore makes a gentle reminder of a trip or of years spent living in the basin.

You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with the year of an Onbashira you attended. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Posters can be printed on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame.
