Tabount lies in the Drâa-Tafilalet region of southern Morocco, closely tied to the city of Ouarzazate. On the map it occupies the plain on the opposite side of the river valley, and the two form a single urban area divided by the riverbed and its band of green.
Much of the town is laid out in fairly regular blocks, typical of planned expansion, with courtyards and flat-roofed houses packed tightly along narrow streets. Around it the land opens into bare, rocky desert, so the edge of the settlement is often sharp and clearly legible from above.
