The wadi
A wide, mostly dry riverbed crosses the town. It flows only after rare storms, but it still sets the direction of the main streets.

Tamanghasset Map Poster & Print
Tamanrasset, also spelled Tamanghasset, is the main town of Algeria's far south, and it lies in the Sahara at the foot of the Hoggar mountains. On a map it is a small, dense island of streets in an immense empty landscape. The broad, usually dry bed of a wadi runs through the town, and settlement lines up along its banks.
The town grew from a small oasis into a crossing point on the Trans-Saharan routes toward Niger and Mali. It is also closely associated with the Tuareg people of the Hoggar. The French priest Charles de Foucauld lived here in the early twentieth century and built a hermitage on the Assekrem plateau in the mountains above.
A Tamanghasset map poster shows the town exactly as the desert frames it: a compact grid, a wadi threading through it, and highways leaving in straight lines toward distant places. In the Sand or Noir style, the emptiness around the streets becomes the most powerful part of the composition.

Island in the desert
The built-up area ends abruptly in open desert, so the print has a dense centre surrounded by expansive empty space.
Trans-Saharan road
The long north–south highway passes through the town and draws a straight line toward Algiers in one direction and the Sahel in the other.

Por qué Tamanghasset
Un mapa con significado
Tamanrasset means something particular to desert travellers, climbers who have seen the Hoggar and families from Algeria's south. A map of the town makes that sense of distance and remoteness visible on a wall.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with the Tamanrasset spelling or the date of an expedition. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand is the natural choice here.
