The town is small, with a short grid of streets on uneven ground, and the map soon opens onto farmland and wooded hills. Roads twist to follow the terrain, which gives the edges of the composition a loose, organic feel.
This part of Bahia lies in the humid Atlantic zone, where remnants of Atlantic Forest mix with plantations of cocoa, banana and other crops.
