Ria coastline
Deep inlets and headlands give the coast a jagged, complicated outline. Printed in black and white, it becomes the strongest graphic element of the map.

El mapa
Tsukumi faces the Bungo Channel on the east coast of Kyushu. From above, the shoreline is broken into inlets and small peninsulas, a typical ria coast where the hills drop straight into the sea. The town sits on the narrow flat ground around its bay, and the streets are pressed between the water and the slopes behind.
The hills around Tsukumi are limestone, and the area is known for quarrying and the cement industry. On a map, the working areas appear as large cleared shapes cut into the green slopes, a contrast to the fine texture of the harbour streets. Fishing ports and quays line the water, each tucked into its own curve of the coast.
A Tsukumiura map poster reads as a study in edges. The irregular coastline, the tight band of town and the mass of hills behind it all compete for space in a small frame. In monochrome, the detailed shoreline becomes the main subject. It shows a Japanese coastal town where flat land is scarce.
Deep inlets and headlands give the coast a jagged, complicated outline. Printed in black and white, it becomes the strongest graphic element of the map.
The slopes behind the town are known for limestone. Quarry workings appear on the map as broad, cleared shapes set into the surrounding terrain.
Houses, quays and roads fill the narrow flat ground along the bay, making a dense band of streets between steep land and sheltered water.

Por qué Tsukumiura
A coastline this detailed looks good at any size. For anyone with ties to Tsukumi, whether through family, work at the port or a trip along the Oita coast, the map holds the shape of the bay in a form that suits a calm interior.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be edited. Blueprint emphasises the water, and Paper or Sand give a softer look. Printed posters on matte paper ship from partners in more than 30 countries, with an optional wooden frame.
