El mapa
Tutayev lies on the Volga upstream from Yaroslavl, and the river divides it in two. The left bank was historically the town of Romanov, and the right bank was Borisoglebsk. The two were merged in 1822 as Romanov-Borisoglebsk. In 1918 the town was renamed after Ivan Tutayev, a Red Army soldier. There is still no bridge across the river here, and ferries and boats carry people between the two banks.
The map reflects this history. Each bank has its own grid of streets running back from the river, laid out along the lines of old Russian provincial town plans, with churches facing the water. The Resurrection Cathedral on the Borisoglebsk side is the town's best-known landmark. The Romanov breed of sheep, raised in the region for centuries, takes its name from the old town.
A Tutayev map poster makes the Volga the centre of the composition. A broad band of water separates two towns with a shared name and closely linked histories. It is a quiet, balanced print that suits anyone who knows the upper Volga or has family ties to the Yaroslavl region.
The broad river runs through the middle of the town and separates the two historic halves. It becomes the natural axis of the whole composition.
Romanov on the left bank and Borisoglebsk on the right each have their own orderly street pattern, reaching back from the water in parallel.
Churches and the Resurrection Cathedral stand near the banks, marking the historic centres that face each other across the river.

Por qué Tutayev
The town's two banks and missing bridge give the map a clear story. It makes a good gift for people from the Yaroslavl region and for anyone interested in old Russian provincial towns or who has sailed the upper Volga.
Add a Cyrillic or Latin title, and use the subtitle for the old double name or a date. Paper gives the print an archival feel, and Classic black & white keeps the river crisp. The $9 digital files include six print sizes.
