El mapa
Zheleznogorsk in Kursk Oblast was founded in the late 1950s to serve the Mikhailovsky iron ore deposit, part of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly. The name itself means iron town. From above its origins show clearly: straight avenues, large residential blocks and a centre drawn with a ruler rather than grown over time.
Next to the town lies the enormous open-pit mine and its processing works. On a map the quarry appears as a vast terraced pit, and the spoil heaps and industrial rail lines around it are a landscape of their own, as big as the town itself.
Between the residential districts and the industrial zone lie belts of forest and small reservoirs. A Zheleznogorsk map poster captures the unusual pairing of an orderly planned town and the huge engineered landform that brought it into being.
The town's main streets run in long, straight lines with generous blocks between them. It is a typical postwar Soviet plan and looks clean and symmetrical on paper.
The Mikhailovsky mine forms a huge stepped hollow beside the town. In wider framings its terraces and haul roads read as concentric contours, almost like a topographic study.
Strips of woodland and water separate housing from industry. They give the composition breathing space between the dense blocks and the mining landscape.

Por qué Zheleznogorsk
For families who came to work at the mine or grew up in its apartment blocks, Zheleznogorsk is a very specific kind of home. A poster honours that story of industry and town-building.
Personalise the title, add a year or a dedication in the subtitle, and adjust the coordinates line. Noir brings out the drama of the pit. Classic black and white keeps the planned grid crisp and legible.
